A clearly defined follow-up pathway sets out who you will speak to, when, and what will be assessed. Every patient is given direct contact details for their named nurse, who is contactable by telephone and WhatsApp outside normal clinic hours as well as during them. This is a clinical support line: it exists so that a question about a dressing, discomfort or a medication reaction can be discussed with someone familiar with your case rather than waiting for the next working day. Contact details are issued in your discharge pack on the day of surgery.

This service does not replace emergency care. If you develop severe breathlessness, chest pain, or pain and swelling in the calf, or you are seriously unwell, call 999 or attend your nearest emergency department immediately. Do not wait for a response from the clinic.

Day One: Your Follow-Up Telephone Call

You will be telephoned the day after surgery. The call covers how you have slept, whether pain relief is adequate, whether you are tolerating your prescribed antibiotics, hydration and mobility. Many early concerns are common and settle with reassurance; the purpose of a scheduled call is that nothing depends on you deciding whether it is worth ringing about.

Week One: Virtual Wound Check

Your dressing is reviewed at around seven days, usually as a virtual appointment with the nursing team, and you will be contacted to arrange this. Keep the dressing clean and dry until the review.

General points for the first week, subject to the specific instructions you are given:

• Showering is usually permitted from 48 hours after surgery, or a warm shallow bath, taking care not to wet the dressing

• If a dressing becomes damp, pat it dry gently or use a cool hairdryer on a low setting

• Light blood staining on a dressing is common; contact the clinic if it feels saturated

• Sutures are internal and dissolvable — a light crust may form on the incision line, which should not be picked or removed

• Micropore tape is provided in case a dressing needs replacing

• Hot baths, hot tubs, saunas and swimming are generally avoided for at least three weeks, or until your surgeon advises otherwise

Your one-week review is also when returning to your usual activities is discussed.

Around Six Weeks: In-Person Review with Your Surgeon

At approximately six weeks you are seen in person by Dr Arnaout to assess early results. By this stage swelling has usually settled substantially, though results continue to evolve. The post-operative bra can generally be discontinued and scar management with silicone gel typically begins, usually from around six weeks or once your surgeon confirms the incision has healed. Return to full exercise is normally discussed at this review. Settled results are generally seen over three to six months, and scars continue to mature well beyond that.

Years One, Two, Five and Ten: The Implant Health Check Programme

Longer-term monitoring is included in your care rather than charged separately. The patient care team will contact you when a check is due, and you can also arrange one directly at any time.

Year one: clinical examination reviewing breast health and healing, together with a consultation. Ultrasound is arranged at this stage if the examination indicates that imaging would be useful, rather than as a routine scan.

Years two, five and ten: clinical examination and consultation together with an ultrasound scan to assess implant integrity.

Eligibility: attending the scheduled appointments in sequence maintains eligibility for the programme. Missed appointments may affect entitlement to subsequent complimentary checks. The programme is offered subject to the clinic's terms and may be varied; please confirm current terms with the patient care team.

Ultrasound is used because implant rupture, particularly of silicone implants, is often silent and may occur without any visible or palpable change. Scheduled imaging is intended to identify changes at an earlier stage. No imaging test is completely accurate, and a normal scan does not exclude all possible findings, so any new symptom should be reported when it arises rather than held until the next scheduled review. Medication After Surgery

You will be discharged with a prescribed course of antibiotics and a written analgesia plan, explained to you before you leave. Pain relief is generally more effective taken regularly than after pain has built. If you experience any adverse effect from your antibiotics, such as rash, nausea or diarrhoea, stop taking them and contact the clinic for advice and an alternative prescription rather than simply discontinuing the course.

Regular medications, such as antihypertensives, can usually be resumed once you are able to drink fluids, unless you have been advised otherwise. Follow the specific dosing instructions issued to you, which are tailored to your case. Your Post-Operative Bra and Scar Care

The post-operative bra is generally worn day and night for six weeks. It should support the breasts without compressing them and should not press or rub on the scars. If the fit feels wrong, contact the clinic rather than persevering. Scar gel usually begins at approximately six weeks, or once your surgeon confirms healing is complete. Scar appearance varies between individuals and continues to change over many months.

Sleeping Position

Sleeping on your back and avoiding pressure on the breasts is generally advised for at least three to four weeks. A V-pillow, or pillows placed either side, can help prevent rolling over during the night.

When Can I Exercise, Drive and Fly After Breast Augmentation?

The following are general guides. Your own surgical team's advice takes precedence.

Exercise: heavy lifting, strenuous exercise and straining are generally avoided for at least six weeks, and lifting above shoulder height for the first two weeks. Gentle walking is encouraged from the outset.

Driving: usually from one week, provided you can wear a seatbelt comfortably and perform an emergency stop without pain or restriction. You remain responsible for judging your own fitness to drive, and you should check your insurance policy before resuming.

Flying: short-haul flights are generally advised from two to four weeks and long-haul from four to six weeks. Hot climates immediately after surgery are best avoided, as heat and sweating can increase swelling and affect wound healing, and lifting or carrying heavy luggage is generally avoided for four to six weeks.

Changes in Nipple Sensation and Breast Appearance

Temporary changes in nipple or breast skin sensation are common after breast augmentation. Numbness, hypersensitivity, tingling or mild burning may occur as nerves recover, and settling can take up to two years. In a small number of cases sensory change may be longer lasting. Swelling, bruising or puckering is common in the first two to three weeks.

What to Avoid, and What Helps

Generally avoid:

• Smoking or vaping, which impairs wound healing

• Alcohol for one week after surgery

• Exercise beyond gentle walking in the early period

• Driving within the first week, or before you can do so safely

Generally helpful:

• Resting as much as possible

• Keeping the legs moving gently to reduce the risk of deep vein thrombosis

• Staying well hydrated

When Should I Contact the Clinic Urgently?

Contact the clinic without waiting for your next scheduled appointment if you notice a sudden increase in swelling, redness or pain, a dressing that feels excessively wet or saturated, fever, or any adverse reaction to prescribed medication. Outside clinic hours, use the nurse contact details in your discharge pack.

In an emergency, do not contact the clinic first. If you develop severe breathlessness, chest pain, or pain and swelling in the calf, or you are seriously unwell, call 999 or attend your nearest emergency department immediately.

Aftercare for Preservé and MIA FemTech Patients

The follow-up schedule above applies across techniques, while recovery milestones differ. Across more than 150 tracked tissue-preserving cases, Preservé and MIA FemTech patients typically returned to normal daily activity in three to five days and desk-based work in five to seven days, with light exercise from around fourteen days.
